From here onto the historic and beautiful city of Cusco, the former Inca capital where you visit with a top local guide as well as having time to explore on your own. It is possible to enjoy this trip either in supreme luxury like at the Sanctuary Lodge just meters away from the ruins at Machu Picchu or with some of our handpicked locally owned characterful boutique hotels. Then onto Galapagos visiting some of the most spectacular visitor sites in the archipelago on board one of our handpicked yachts.

This morning your private guide will pick you up and take you to visit Pisac, a village above which lies a majestic Inca fortress overlooking the valley, filled with wonderful examples of Inca stonework and engineering. After lunch at a local restaurant together with your guide you visit the magnificent Inca ruins at Ollantaytambo, a major fortress and the last stronghold of the Incas as they fought off the Spanish invaders. Below the fortress is an exquisite traditional community and a living Inca village that retains the stonework, narrow streets and family courtyards of its original Inca plan. The best time to visit the Andean region of Peru is from April through October. The peak rainy months in Peru’s Andes are January and February. We particularly like the months of May and October for this combined Peru and Galapagos vacation, as they are usually much quieter than the peak tourist months, but with good weather. These months also coincide with two of our favourite months for Galapagos.
