Santa Fe Island

Named after a city in Spain, Santa Fe has an area of 15 square miles and a maximum altitude of 850 feet. Host to a forest of Puntia cactus, which are the largest in the Galapagos, it is located in the south eastern part of the Galapagos. This is the oldest of the Galapagos islands and was formed from an uplift (rather than a volcano), giving the island a relatively flat surface rather than the typical conical shape of other islands. The bay here offers great possibilities to swim and snorkel in crystal clear waters. A hike inland offers a great chance to see a species of Land Iguanas (Conolophus pallidus) which is endemic to Santa Fe Island. In the same area you’ll also see a forest of Giant Prickly Pear Cactus. After your visit you can swim and snorkel both inside and outside the bay.
